Flying J Ranch: Hwy 48, Alto. The Flying J Ranch Chuckwagon Supper & Western Show kicks off another exciting summer season tonight! Performances will be held every night (except Sunday) through August, then Saturday nights (only) through mid-October thereafter. Gates open at 6pm.
Ruidoso Downs Racetrack: The Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino kicks off horseracing season, which runs through Labor Day, with the running of the world’s richest Quarter Horse race, the All-American Futurity! Live racing will take place every Thursday through Sunday, beginning at 1pm, except on holiday weekends, when the horses will run Friday through Monday; Free admission in Grandstand area. Cowboy music, yodeling, banjo, mandolin, comedy acts. There is a little Western village with pony rides for kids, horse shoes, gunfight in the street, shops to browse through with kids' stuff. The Flying J Ranch is 10 minutes drive from Alto Hombre Gordito Hideout. Open six nights a week (closed Sunday) and then Saturdays after labor Day through mid-October. Open 6 pm and activities abound for children and adults. There's an old-fashioned gunfight and chuck-wagon chow is served. Kids can try pistol shooting and pony rides.

At 7,300 feet, The Mountain Resort summer daytime highs only in the 80s even at the height of summer. Low humidity around 25% allows overnight temperatures to drop to comfortable sleeping conditions. July through September brings on the annual monsoon, with increased humidity moderating both high and low temperatures. Wintertime brings comfortable 50s and 60s during daytime and cools off to 30s and 40s during nighttime. Ski season starts with Thanksgiving and continues through Easter.
